Fried or Baked Yam is one of many ways to prepare this root vegetable. This vegetable can be used in a similar way to the common potato-Although in order to make it into yam fries, it needs to be boiled.
1 Medium to Large Piece of Yam
Oil for Frying/Roasting
Salt and Black Pepper,To taste
Cut the yam in half, and peel using a knife. To do this,hold the vegetable in one hand, and then holding the knife,make a small cut into the yam,and allow the knife to glide in a downwards line.
Make sure to move any fingers out of the way. Repeat until all of the skin is removed.Cut the yam into chunks,removing any black spots from the vegetable.
Wash and drain, then boil a kettle, and put the boiled water into a pot with a little salt. Add the yam pieces, and boil for 10-15 minutes until cooked through. Drain and discard of the water.
Heat some oil in a pan or electric fryer, and in batches fry the yam. When done, sprinkle with salt and pepper.
If roasting,put the yam in a roasting tray, and pour some oil over the yam. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and cook for 15-20 minutes on 180 degrees.
Serve with meat or vegetarian meal of choice. Enjoy!!
